What I Paint To

Sometimes I paint to music
Listening as I go
But then again to silence
Which I most know

Sometimes I paint to doubt
That old enemy
Sometimes to weariness
Trying to hold me

But lately I paint to strength
Coupled with energy
Joined by fast faith
With trust for company

Today I painted to love
In all its colors and hues
Today I painted to love
Which I lately choose

My Calligraphy

While developing myself as a fine artist, I learned the ancient art of calligraphy. My studied hands consists of italic, uncial, foundational and chancery. I am also proficient in rendering variations of these hands.

My main calligraphic offerings are customized and framed works, text for handbound books, poetry, songs, note cards and, of course, addressing envelopes. I am a humble artist, and do not prefer any particular calligraphic category over another. I am thankful to have learned such a gratifying craft - which, by many accounts, is currently becoming a fine art.

The framed calligraphy works shown below are rendered on hand-painted papers that I designed myself. The papers are painted with sponges, foam brushes and crumbled bits of tissue. The mats are also painted in this manner. Some are painted using traditional acrylic brushes. I also paint my frames, using transparent paints over opaque paints so that the initial designs will show through. The frames are then given two coats of matte or semi-gloss varnish.

The calligraphy below was completed about two years ago. I have several new works which I will be posting soon. Calligraphy is fun to do, and sooo relaxing!
